Time: Friday 11 November from 13:00 to 19:00, Saturday 12 November from 9:00 to 18:00 and Sunday 13 November from 9:00 to 15:00.
Are you ready to join us for a weekend of data analysis, urban development and team work? Fill in our application form now! Please note that capacity is limited and we will confirm your place after registration closes on Monday 31 October, 2016.
Who are we looking for?
Bachelor and master students interested in working with data and / or topics related to urban development. We do not expect you to have much experience of working with data however you should have a knowledge of using Microsoft Excel. If you feel like you need to improve your Excel skills before the event, register for our 4-week Excel course (starting on Thursday, 20 October, 2016), organized by our Economics Discovery Hub. We recommend attending our kick-off event on 26 October which will reveal more information and help you to prepare for the event.
What is the aim of the datathon?
To give you hands-on experience solving a real urban development problem using data analysis skills. You will choose a topic that interests you (from one of the following areas: urban movement, diverse city, bottom-up impact), form a team with other students and spend three days solving the case. At the end of the challenge you will present your findings to the judges. Members of the winning team will each receive a 1,000 USD scholarship for our MA in Applied Economics program and ARCHIP will also offer a 1,000 USD tuition discount for their masters program, further information can be found here.
What happens after Datathon?
Datathon will be followed by a specific intervention scheme to improve a public space in Prague. The Datathon participants will develop a proposal for an intervention scheme, based on their analysis conducted during Datathon. This intervention will be installed and its impact tested within 2-3 months after the Datathon event in a specific location in Prague. It is anticipated the intervention should improve the quality of the city’s public space and inhabitants experience of living in and moving around the city. Moreover, it will present how data can be used to solve a problem in order to improve society. The Datathon participants who were involved in proposing the intervention, will be welcome to continue working on the intervention after the Datathon event to make it ready for installation.
I have no experience of working with data. Can I apply?
Yes, however we strongly recommend you take part in our kick-off event on 26 October at 18:00 at CERGE-EI, preparing you for the Datathon event. If you are unable to attend, we are also preparing a webinar (date to be confirmed).
